Why hot tubs cost more than they look like they should
An empty hot tub shell is manageable. A tub that's been sitting for years has absorbed water into its foam insulation, and that can add hundreds of pounds you can't see.
Most also can't fit through a gate or around a house intact, so they get cut into sections on site. That's slower and messier than a straight carry-out, which is what the price reflects.
Before we arrive
Drain the tub completely if you can — a hose from the drain plug and a few hours usually does it. A tub still holding water is dramatically heavier and we may not be able to move it that day.
The electrical also needs to be disconnected at the breaker by an electrician. Hot tubs run on 240V and that isn't a DIY step.

Does it need to be drained first?
Yes, as fully as possible. A tub holding water may be too heavy to move safely.
Can you get it out through a narrow gate?
Almost always — we cut it into sections on site rather than trying to fit it through intact.
Do you disconnect the electrical?
No. A licensed electrician should disconnect it at the breaker before we arrive.
